It's Monday morning, and the work for the week is already driving me nuts. 30 pages left and it looks like eternity more so then ever before.

Sometimes, goodbye means nothing at all.
I'll come back, and make you catch me everytime I fall.

I will be loved.

It comes, thick hearted with a light touch.

They get their Hymns from Him.
...As much as we and the WASP*s do.

They swear, have lots of sex, do drugs and have supremely inflated egos. Kings of bling and coke, but still oddly, the song-writers who have succeeded reducing me to tears on the bus.

Kanye West and his crew speak of christianity from a different sociological angle. And one that cannot be written off for it's faults. I believe that they have revealed truth as experienced by their community. If Dan Haseltine was discriminated against for the colour of his skin, and entrenched in a history of exploitation and slavery leaving his community with little choice but to turn to abusive substances and crime, Jars of Clay would be spinning tracks wildly different from the ones that we know.

I think it'd be good for us to recognize truth in what we Christians see as 'improper' or 'worldly', and to think critically about our own Christian Culture. Especially in Singapore for Christ's sake, where the churches with their respective denominations find their roots in the terror of colonialism. The way I see it our christian culture, as with every other sphere of cultural development, is dictated by those in socio-economic power: the WASPs.

Kayne moves me to tears becuase he expresses the spiritual journey of the oppressed. And these weigh heavily on the heart of God. So while we're locked within our cultural lenses, let us be open-hearted and love those who are glaringly different.

And understand, and live according to the simple truths: That Jesus walks with them, and that He'll doesn't intend on letting them down.

Car Conversations - 2am

"Back when we were 10 and we were classmates, I never dreamed that we'd be 22 and that I'd be in a car with you driving."

Sean, after 13 years, you're still a trusted friend, and I think you're the oldest friend who can claim that category.

I thank my lucky stars, and God, for you.

CB Hubby

Aunty Irene came over today for breakfast and we talked about my trip. We went through photos, I told stories, and she listened with mounting fascination.

And I realise how much I miss travelling with Thi. He was a great friend and partner, and was almost everything great about the trip. Best team the world has seen, he even suggested that we do the amazing race together some time.

Sometime.

Maybe we'll race around the world someday, a race against poverty and social injustice, swigging beerlao and laughing, a lot.

But for now, I really want to go to South Africa.

No, it wasn't a shock. But a bitter reality that frightened me. Not that I have anything to fear at this point in time, only God can say if I will have to fight this battle in the future.

But for now, the image sits awkwardly still, on the edge of my mind: My beautiful grandmother, in her deep brown dressing gown and poofy coily hair, shuffling nervously to the edge of her property to see me off while waiting for the opportune time to say:

"你不可以嫁给红毛人"

Not as if that were looming around the corner anytime soon.

aye/ai... what can I say? Except that 白人看不懂,and given my enduring reaction after the exchange, what does that make me?
Singapore's Funniest Family.

Joshie has always said that I come from a different culture, that my parents aren't typically Singaporean and that they are, and this is my opinion too, a little odd.

This confirms it. They've decided to take Daniel out of school for a week so that we can to go to Tibet as a family. I can see the look on his pricipal's face as she scours the letter my parents will be sending.

"Tibet? You're skipping school to go to... TIBET?! Boy, are you making this up??!"

My brother would then give his shocked deer-in-headlights look before dissolving into laughter:

"If I were trying to skip school for a week, would I say that I would be going to TIBET?"

What would the school do?
What can they do?

Aye, my brother is not an academic, and he's not about to let anyone tell him otherwise.
Thank god for supportive parents

Tibet it is.

I relentlessly flirt with babies and the ridiculous.

I believe I spelt that right.
激情

Sophistication, like safety, cleanliness and being right, is not a virtue.
And hence, is neither necessary, nor something that we ought to hanker relentlessly after.

But rather, a simple state of being that just is, and usually is overrated.

Get your priorities right, for god's sake.
I'd like to get back into the habit of blogging again and don't quite know how.

But surfice it to say that i've been gloriously happy for the past 3 months. I wouldn't have anything changed, if I had to relive it again. But then again, I'd also like to get my student pass approved by the ICA.

Oh well, in His time, and hands.

But in other news, everybody go to Shaw Gallery and try out the Ice Cream at Tom's Palette. It rocks and my friend belmont works there. Go for it.
