You look at it as a race, instead of a system of ratings. It's like the guile debate, where nice guys are the people who go up there with a prepared speech and get heckled off.
Difference is that not everyone has to be at the guile debate.
And the hecklers aren't the people you're running with anyway.
You put too much weight on the metaphor and not enough on the principle it represents.
